Of the glorious body telling,\nO my tongue its mystery sing,\nAnd the blood all price excelling\nWhich the world’s eternal king;\nIn a noble home once dwelling,\nShed for this world’s ransoming.\n2. Given for us, for us descending,\nOf a virgin to proceed,\nMan with man in converse blending\nScattered he the gospel seed,\nTill his sojourn drew to ending;\nWhich he closed in wondrous deed.\n34\n3. At the last great supper lying\nCircled by his brethren’s hand,\nMeekly with the law complying,\nFirst he finished its command,\nThen, immortal food supplying,\nGave himself with his own hand.\n4. Word made flesh, by word he maketh\nVery bread his flesh to be;\nMan in wine Christ’s blood partaketh:\nAnd if senses fail to see,\nFaith alone the true heart waketh\nTo behold the mystery.\n5. Therefore we, before him bending\nThis great sacrament revere;\nTypes and shadows have their ending,\nFor the newer rite is here;\nFaith, our outward senses befriending\nMakes the inward vision clear.\n6. Glory, let us give, and blessing\nTo the Father and the Son\nHonour, might and praise addressing\nWhile eternal ages run;\nEver too his love confessing,\nWho, form both, with both is one.
