O SAVIOUR CHRIST, O GOD MOST HIGH

O Saviour Christ, O God most high,\nWhose glorious triumph decks the sky,\nArising from the world’s defeat\nWith tyrant death beneath thy feet.\n2. Called from above, thou, as thy own\nIn right of God resum’st thy throne,\nAnd dost this universe survey\nWhilst all thy creatures homage pay.\n3. Both heaven and earth, nay, death and hell,\nAnd all that in their confines dwell,\nWith bended knees fall down before\nThe general victor and adore.\n4. The angels stand amazed to see\nSuch change in our mortality,\nThat human flesh, the root of sin,\nShould serve their God to triumph in.\n5. May he our great reward bestow,\nWhose influence on this world below\nMakes heaven alone seem worth our care,\nAnd all things else insipid here.\n6. Then, Lord, with the release of sin,\nLet thy triumphant grace begin,\nAnd sweetly draw our hearts to thee,\nOur centre and felicity.\n7. May endless worlds Christ’s triumphs own,\nAscending his immortal throne,\nAnd one eternal praise repeat\nTo Father and to Paraclete.
